Though smaller than “big law” firms, BSP Law punches well above its weight, providing nationwide litigation services with trial skills second to none. Some of America’s best-known companies look to BSP Law for successful results in product liability litigation, complex business litigation, class actions, and appeals.

An associate filling our open position should have an interest in handling product liability cases, but will also have opportunities to work in BSP Law’s other trial litigation practice areas. Many of our attorneys have returned to working mostly in-office, but BSP Law has embraced a forward-looking hybrid in-person/remote environment. Depending on qualifications and role—and after initial onboarding—we will consider remote-first candidates.

Successful candidates will demonstrate:

  • Outstanding interpersonal, analytical, organizational, and communication (both written and oral) skills;
  • Strong attention to detail and highly responsive and efficient work habits;
  • A desire to produce top-quality work and continually improve;
  • Leadership and ownership on cases; and
  • Excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • 2-6 years’ experience in civil litigation, including drafting pleadings, taking depositions, and arguing motions;
  • Deep thinker; efficient researcher; persuasive writer and speaker; and
  • Michigan or Texas Bar License (or ability to waive in).

Job duties include:

  • Identification and analysis of complex legal issues;
  • Drafting and responding to discovery requests (which requires gathering, organizing, and indexing large volumes of paper and electronic materials);
  • Drafting and responding to motions;
  • Taking depositions and assisting with preparation of witnesses for depositions;
  • Frequent communication with opposing counsel, experts, witnesses, and clients;
  • Frequent analysis of technical issues;
  • Analyzing engineering documents and various other file materials, and preparing these materials for electronic production; and
  • Responding to deposition notices (which includes proper objections, scope analysis, and definition).

An Accountant filling our open position requires a detail-oriented, personable self-motivator with excellent communication skills, a professional demeanor, and who takes pride in always producing top-quality work, but also likes to have fun with coworkers in a collegial environment.  The Accounting Specialist position requires someone who has the ability to multi-task and prioritize, has good judgement when it comes to analyzing data, and can work well as a team member and independently.  This position requires a highly organized, levelheaded individual that loves details and can execute quickly and accurately.

Job Duties Include:

Billing and Accounts Receivable

  • Prepares and distributes client invoices.
  • Reviews and edits pre-bills in response to attorney requests and verifies accuracy of billing and supporting documentation as required, uploading of invoices to electronic billing site in accordance with client billing guidelines.
  • Ability to manage a high volume of prebills and invoices.
  • Research, resolve and respond to inquiries regarding billing questions.
  • Follow-up on status of payment of outstanding invoices.

Accounts Payable:

  • Enter and maintain timely and accurate vendor and invoice information in system.
  • Process monthly credit card statements and enter in system.
  • Research, resolve and respond to inquiries regarding accounts payable and credit card questions.

Other Responsibilities Include:

  • A variety of other accounting and bookkeeping duties (as assigned).
    • Monthly client accrual entry
    • Annual rate review
    • Year-end related assistance

Required Qualifications:

  • Associates degree or above in Accounting, Finance or related field.
  • A minimum of 1 to 5 years of hands-on billing and accounts payable experience, law firm environment is a plus.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Programs (Outlook, Word, Excel at a high skill level, and PowerPoint).
  • Experience with accounting software programs utilized in a service environment is a plus.
  • High level of comfort with technology, including the ability to learn new software and procedures quickly.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize while showing strong attention to detail and accuracy is a must.
  • Able to work independently, anticipate workflow and manage time accordingly and follow through with minimal direction.
  • Team player with a good attitude.
  • Excellent oral and written communication ability.
  • Outstanding client service skills.
