Though smaller than “big law” firms, BSP punches well above its weight class, providing nationwide litigation services with trial skills second to none. Many of our attorneys have returned to working mostly in-office, but BSP has embraced a forward-looking hybrid in-person/remote environment. Depending on qualifications and role—and after initial on-boarding—we will consider remote-first candidates.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Experience in civil litigation, including drafting pleadings, taking depositions, and arguing motions;

Job duties include:

  • Identification and analysis of complex legal issues;
  • Drafting and responding to discovery requests (which requires gathering, organizing, and indexing large volumes of paper and electronic materials);
  • Drafting and responding to motions;
  • Taking depositions and assisting with preparation of witnesses for depositions;
  • Frequent communication with opposing counsel, experts, witnesses, and clients;
  • Frequent analysis of technical issues;
  • Analyzing engineering documents and various other file materials, and preparing these materials for electronic production; and
  • Responding to deposition notices (which includes proper objections, scope analysis, and definition).

This group focuses on litigation strategy, research, and writing, with many team members rounding out their dockets with end-to-end litigation. BSP may be small, but we punch above our weight class, regularly working (and sometimes competing) with other leading firms around the country.

Job Duties Include:

  • Spotting and analyzing complex legal issues across topics; 
  • Drafting and editing trial-related filings, including motions: on critical discovery issues, to dismiss, for summary judgment/disposition, relating to class certification, to exclude experts, in limine, for directed verdict, new trial, and/or JNOV;  
  • Supporting trial teams, largely for legal issues, sometimes in person. This role includes drafting portions of pre-trial briefs and objections, jury instructions, verdict forms, bench briefs; (see Teaming Up: Appellate and Trial Counsel Partnering to Win); 
  • Drafting appellate briefs and petitions/applications; 
  • Editing legal arguments written by others for accuracy and persuasion, sometimes on short deadlines; 
  • Arguing motions and appeals; 
  • Strategizing and conducting fact discovery (including written discovery and depositions); and 
  • Investigating and working with experts, including depositions. 

Skills & Qualifications: 

  • Enjoys challenging, complex legal issues;  
  • Experience with brief-writing (or equivalent);

Bush Seyferth PLLC, a litigation boutique law firm with offices in Michigan and Texas, seeks an IT Coordinator to support the firm’s IT function, including data retention, data security, risk reduction, and e-discovery support. The IT Coordinator will install, set up, maintain, and troubleshoot computer hardware, mobile devices, and related peripherals and provide primary support for all end-user software. This individual will also assist with, and in smaller projects manage, e-discovery collection, processing, and production, and will participate in specific proactive technical tasks, self-directed projects, and elements of larger projects and assignments. Many within our firm have returned to working mostly in-office, but BSP has a hybrid in-person/remote environment.

Job Duties Include:

  • Deploy, maintain, and support desktop hardware and software, telephones, mobile devices, printers, copiers and other electronic equipment, including executing new user technology and equipment setups.
  • Provide first-line user technical and equipment related support.
  • Build and update e-mail and Teams distribution groups and firm Intranet and SharePoint sites.
  • Coordinate and execute data management activities, including access and retention.
  • Address remote access requests and troubleshooting, including password resets, bypass, activation, and reactivation for new devices.
  • Coordinate with equipment and technology manufacturers (and IT contractors) regarding warranties, subscriptions, vendors, and software licenses.
  • Assist with e-discovery document collection, ingestion, searching, tagging, and production efforts.
  • Develop and coordinate ongoing security awareness training, phishing tests, etc.
  • Serve as the subject-matter expert on the firm’s key technology platforms and establish, oversee, and document consistent technology use standards and workflows.
  • Work with internal teams to identify areas to improve technology process and efficiency.
  • Maintain the firm’s IT security policies and procedures and respond to client security audits.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • 2+ years’ experience in PC hardware/software support including peripherals;
  • Proficiency in desktop and mobile hardware, Windows 10 and MS Office 365;
  • Experience troubleshooting problems on the following equipment: PC equipment, tablets, smart phones, peripherals, multi-function printers, and wired and wireless network connectivity, video-conference rooms;
  • 2+ years in experience in electronic discovery technologies;
  • Ability to professionally and effectively communicate with others;
  • Strong coordination and interpersonal skills;
  • Proven track record in troubleshooting;
  • Strong analytical skills;
  • Ability to set priorities, multitask, and work within constantly changing priorities; and
  • Minimum Associates degree in an IT-related field is preferred.

Job Duties:

  • Coordinate complex scheduling and extensive calendar management.
  • Organize emails and other case-related documents into case folders within the document management system.
  • Draft, edit, format, and finalize documents.
  • Organize and track case materials.
  • Maintain/update contact lists, distribution lists, and case lists.
  • Conduct conflict checks and initiate the necessary paperwork to open and close matters.
  • Assemble and maintain case organization documents, including to-do lists, master case spreadsheet, chronologies, etc.
  • Create case information sheets, notebooks, and deposition preparation notebooks, including exhibits for depositions.
  • Schedule depositions and deposition preparation sessions.
  • Request documents from clients.
  • Gather responsive documents from BSP database.
  • Draft correspondence to opposing counsel.
  • Send document production to opposing counsel.
  • Handle travel arrangements and submit expense reports.
  • Understand court requirements and prepare documents for filing with the court, including e-filings.
  • Organize and input attorney time utilizing the Firm’s time-entry software.
  • Create and maintain a listing of attorney and client-specific information of items or tasks to be done to provide a high level of support.
  • Provide backup to other Legal Administrative Assistants and Receptionist as needed.

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of high-level executive assistant experience (legal preferred).
  • A high degree of discretion is required.
  • Proficient with office technology and conferencing equipment, specifically Zoom and Teams, and Microsoft Office software, including the ability to learn new software and procedures quickly. Experience with Netdocuments, Sharepoint and OneNote a plus.
  • Ability to prioritize, show strong attention to detail, and work efficiently in a fast-paced work environment where strict deadlines are common.
