BSP Law Attorneys Secure Pro Bono Wins

At BSP Law, we are proud to uphold our commitment to giving back through meaningful pro bono work.

BSP Attorney Nicole Haelterman recently secured a victory on appeal for her pro bono client. Her client had entered a guilty plea based on misinformation about his sentence, and his request to withdraw the plea was denied. Nicole represented him on appeal, arguing that his constitutional right to a knowing and voluntary plea had been violated. The Court of Appeals accepted the concession of error, granting her client the right to withdraw his guilty plea.

This success follows BSP Attorneys Lena Gonzalez and William E. McDonald obtaining a favorable settlement in a pro bono case on behalf of a prisoner client, asserting his Eighth Amendment right to be free from cruel and unusual punishment. The case settled just one day before voir dire was set to begin, offering invaluable trial preparation experience.

These cases reflect our attorneys’ dedication to advocacy, both inside and outside of their traditional practice areas. BSP Law is proud to support our community through our pro bono efforts.
